BOOK LAUNCH- A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

There couldn’t have been a more glamorous, or fitting, location to fête the launch of Lisa Immordino Vreeland’s book, Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel, than surrounded by the latest fashions at Barneys on Madison Avenue. Immordino Vreeland and her husband Alexander welcomed guests and as champagne flowed and hors d’oeuvres were passed she inscribed copy after copy of her beautiful large-format book.

As soon as Mark Lee saw a layout of the book he wanted to throw a party in the middle of fashion week. He was joined in hosting the event by a few other dear friends of Mrs. Vreeland: Calvin Klein, Diane von Furstenberg, model Penelope Tree whose career was launched by DV, and China Machado, who was renowned as one of the first exotic models and worked with Mrs. Vreeland at Harper’s Bazaar. The well-heeled crowd comprised not only industry personalities and admirers of the “high priestess of fashion,” but true Vreeland insiders — people who worked with Mrs. Vreeland during her career, and many who contributed greatly to the book, as well as the documentary and new website. Barneys’ own Simon Doonan, who worked with Mrs. Vreeland at the Costume Institute mingled with close friends and family, along with Vogue heavy-hitters Grace Mirabella, Tonne Goodman and Jade Hobson.

It was a festive and sophisticated evening truly befitting the project, made all the more special by the attendees. Immordino Vreeland was thrilled with the event and all the effort put forth by the talented Barneys’ PR team. As she aptly told Barneys The Window: “This party has been fantastic. It’s at Barneys New York, which is New York. And it’s a real celebration of Diana. That the city is out celebrating Diana tonight shows that she is truly alive in spirit!”
